Italy Concerned About Netanyahu's Arrest

The Italian government has expressed concern over the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Members of the ruling coalition have described the decision as a mistake but have not clarified their stance on whether it will be enforced.
"Italy will examine the content of this decision and its legal basis. We support the ICC but always remember that this institution serves a judicial function and does not play a political role.
We are concerned about the political consequences of this decision, which could complicate the Middle East peace process," said Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
Another Deputy Prime Minister, Infrastructure Minister, and leader of the Lega party, Matteo Salvini, criticized the ICC's decision regarding Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant, labeling it "pro-Islamist."
Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, a prominent member of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's Brothers of Italy party, despite calling the decision a mistake, stated that if Israeli politicians visit Italy, they would have to be arrested in accordance with the ICC's ruling.
The opposition Five Star Movement party welcomed the ICC's decision and called for its enforcement. This was reported by the newspaper La Repubblica.
