Uzbekistan
Within the framework of the COP16 conference taking place in Riyadh with the assistance of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Saudi Arabia, a ceremony was held to sign an agreement and establish an office of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Tashkent.
Among the joint projects are the IUCN Regional One Health Initiative, launched in partnership with the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, as well as the Land Restoration and Landscapes Project.
"We are pleased that our cooperation with IUCN is growing through joint projects and events. I am confident that the establishment of an office in Tashkent will create new opportunities for collaboration," said Aziz Abdukhakimov, Minister of Ecology, Environment, and Climate Change of Uzbekistan.
"The IUCN office in Tashkent will serve not only Uzbekistan but the entire Central Asian region, and we are pleased to see regional cooperation in nature conservation and sustainable development evolve," added IUCN Director General, Gretel Agilar.
In the near future, cooperation is expected to be expanded through the launch of a comprehensive project for nature conservation and the restoration of valuable landscapes in Uzbekistan, organized in partnership with GEF and the UN Development Programme.
