Kazakhstan breaks 12-year poverty record
In July-September 2023, the number of Kazakhstanis whose income is below the subsistence minimum increased by 9% compared to April-June and exceeded 1.1 million people. This was reported in the analytical centre of the First Credit Bureau with reference to official statistics.

"This is the highest value at least since the first quarter of 2011. Comparison with earlier periods is complicated by changes in the methodology of counting," the analysts noted.

It is noted that in the third quarter of this year, the cost of living in the country was 51,710 tenge (about 1,409,000 sums), with 5.6% of Kazakhstanis were forced to live a month on less money. This figure increased by 0.5 percentage points over the three months.

The highest proportion of poor people is in Turkestan (9.6 per cent and Jetisu (9.3 per cent) regions. Astana has the lowest percentage of poor population (2.7 per cent).
