Leaders of Uzbekistan and India outline outcomes of talks

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi outlined the outcomes of the talks at a meeting with the media.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev particularly emphasized the significance of the Indian Prime Minister’s historic visit to Uzbekistan.
The Leader of Uzbekistan also noted that the fruitful negotiations were another clear demonstration of the sincere friendship, deep mutual respect, and trust between the two countries.
He noted that India is a reliable and promising strategic partner with significant standing and influence on the global stage. India’s impressive achievements in digital technologies, software development, and startups were highly praised.
Extensive preparations were made for the visit. A substantial package of documents was adopted, including a Joint Statement, and a number of intergovernmental agreements were signed.
It was noted with great satisfaction that bilateral relations have reached the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership.
The talks focused primarily on economic cooperation. Last year, bilateral trade increased by 33 percent to $1.3 billion. The two countries have set a target of increasing this figure to $5 billion by 2030.
As part of the visit, a portfolio of key joint investment projects was developed, and specific agreements were reached with a number of major Indian companies.
During the talks, new areas of growth were identified for expanding cooperation in energy, critical minerals, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, electronics, mechanical engineering, the jewelryindustry, and agriculture.
The importance of continuing mutual support on international and regional platforms was emphasized, including within the UN, SCO, Non-Aligned Movement, and BRICS, as well as in cooperation with the countries of the Global South.
Turning to cultural and humanitarian ties, it was particularly noted that four Indian universities operate in Uzbekistan and that the Lal Bahadur Shastri and Mahatma Gandhi centers are successfully carrying out their activities. It was also emphasized that the 30-day visa-free regime and 14 weekly flights between the two countries will contribute to the further development of tourism.
Concluding his remarks, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that a comprehensive Roadmap will be developed to ensure the full implementation of the agreements reached and expressed gratitude to his Indian counterpart and all participants.
