Libyan Chief of Staff Killed in Plane Crash Near Ankara
Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeiba confirmed the death of the Chief of General Staff of the Libyan Armed Forces and four accompanying persons as a result of a private plane crash in Turkey. The incident occurred shortly after the business jet took off from Esenboğa Airport in Ankara, when the aircraft disappeared from radars.

On board was a Libyan military delegation headed by the top commander, which earlier that day held a meeting with Turkish Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler. The plane was en route from Ankara to Tripoli.

The causes of the crash are currently being determined. Turkish and Libyan authorities are presumably conducting an investigation. The loss of one of the country's top military leaders is a serious blow to Libya, where a complex political and military situation already persists.
