In Uzbekistan, the number of fraudulent credit cases rose by 42% in 2024, with loans being taken out in citizens' names without their consent. The Ombudsman received more than 6,000 complaints, 9% of which were related to financial fraud. Experts warn of the increased risk and suggest precautionary measures to protect personal data.
In 2024, there was a sharp increase in cases where loans were issued in citizens' names without their knowledge in commercial banks, leading to a surge in complaints. In 60% of these cases, fraudsters posed as employees of companies such as Click or the Central Bank. Despite this, banks continued to demand repayment from the victims. In response, the Ombudsman filed five lawsuits, resulting in the cancellation of several loan agreements, and the victims received compensation.
With the rise in fraud cases, authorities are urging citizens to be cautious, not disclose personal information, and carefully verify calls or messages from unknown individuals.
