NASA: Sun experienced biggest explosion in last 7 years
World
The new flare is the third in less than 24 hours.
Scientists report that the radiation fluxes recorded from the Sun amounted to about one kilowatt per square kilometre, which is only two to three times lower than the record levels recorded in modern history. The solar flare was classified as X6.3 and is thus the largest since 2017, when the last powerful events of the previous activity cycle occurred.
The latest explosion, according to observations, occurred dangerously close to the Sun-Earth line, increasing the likelihood of a possible impact on Earth.
The magnetic storm, according to researchers, is expected as early as 25 February.
