New Law: Montage of Law Enforcement Officers' Videos and Distribution is Prohibited
Uzbekistan
Today, the next session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis took place. During the session, a law was passed establishing administrative liability for the distortion and distribution of photos or videos of law enforcement officers taken while performing their duties to ensure public safety, if these materials are edited in a way that damages their reputation, including distribution on the internet. This law was approved by senators in its third reading.
This means that taking and distributing photos or videos of law enforcement officers is not prohibited. However, the law requires that such materials should not distort the officers' actions, words, or the situation, meaning that no edits should be made that could harm their reputation.
The penalty for this offense has been slightly altered compared to the previous version. Previously, the fine was strictly set at 50 times the base minimum wage (BMM), but the new law sets the fine to range from 20 to 50 times the BMM. The previous 15-day mandatory administrative detention has also been reduced to a maximum of 10 days.
