New Railway Overpass Opens on the Sabir Rakhimov–Urtaaul Section
Uzbekistan
A new modern railway overpass was commissioned on October 3, 2026, on the section between the Sabir Rakhimov and Urtaaul stations. The facility was built by Uzbekistan Railways to regulate traffic flows at the intersection of Tashkent city and Tashkent Region.
The opening ceremony was attended by Tashkent Region Governor Z. Mirzaev, Chairman of Uzbekistan Railways Z. Narzullaev, Transport Prosecutor I. Narimov, media representatives, local residents and other guests.
The overpass was constructed at the site of the existing railway crossing at kilometer 3384, PC-2. The project included a new double-track railway bridge measuring 23.6 meters in length, the restoration of railway tracks to their designed position, and the construction of a bypass railway line and a road with a combined length of 1,200 meters.
The construction involved a large-scale set of engineering works. A total of 237 bored piles were installed for the foundations of the retaining walls, with more than 11,000 cubic meters of concrete used. Some 800 meters of the overhead contact network were also completely relaid.
The project included 60,000 cubic meters of earthworks. Water-management structures were installed, along with two drainage pipes to safely discharge rainwater and melting snow. Modern roadways and pedestrian paths were also constructed.
The new overpass is designed to separate railway and road traffic and streamline vehicle flows in the area. The facility is expected to improve conditions for residents of the Zangiota district and transit passengers.
The commissioning of the overpass is intended to reduce pressure on roads, ease congestion and shorten travel times while providing safer and more comfortable traffic conditions.
