New season - new conditions: greenhouses will receive support
Uzbekistan
During a videoconference chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the government announced wide-ranging support for greenhouse farms — including guaranteed gas supply, tax reductions, and financial incentives for sustainable energy use.
At a government meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a comprehensive support package was announced for greenhouse farms, particularly in preparation for the winter season.
Greenhouses that operate on natural gas and commit to both domestic supply and export production will be guaranteed gas volumes during winter months.
Those currently using coal or alternative heating systems but willing to fulfill export commitments will also be allowed to return to gas usage.
Prepayments for gas usage from October to March will be set at 50%, provided contracts are signed with gas suppliers by October 1.
Greenhouses that previously took out loans to switch from gas to other fuels will be granted extensions on their repayment terms.
In addition, entrepreneurs building greenhouses powered by heat pump technology will receive reimbursement of up to 20% of expenses, or a 4% subsidy on loan interest if the project is credit-financed.
All greenhouses, regardless of classification, will now pay land tax at the agricultural rate, and until 2028, the social tax for greenhouse employees will be reduced from 12% to 1%.
The Tax Committee was tasked with assessing the economic efficiency of sectors currently using gas, and reallocating gas back to greenhouses if other industries show low added value.
Environmental concerns were also addressed — particularly the negative impact of greenhouses on air quality in the Tashkent region — with orders to resolve the issue definitively.
