The focus of the dialogue centered on the long-anticipated launch of the construction of the nation's first nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh region, alongside the deployment of large-scale "green" reforms designed to safeguard the Central Asian ecosystem.
On June 4, the Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan, Saida Mirziyoyeva, met with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, who arrived in the country for the groundbreaking ceremony of the NPP in the Jizzakh region. The parties outlined strategic steps for forming a national nuclear energy infrastructure, developing peaceful atomic applications, advancing nuclear medicine, and training qualified personnel for the sector.
Concurrently, on the sidelines of the international Assembly in Samarkand, vital environmental talks were held with UN Under-Secretary-General Inger Andersen (UNEP) and the CEO of the Global Environment Facility, Claude Gascon. The discussions targeted critical challenges unique to the region: combating desertification, monitoring air quality, and preserving biodiversity. The leaders of these global bodies confirmed their readiness to fully support Tashkent's environmental and infrastructural reforms.
