The Pontiff emphasized that peace achieved through negotiations is "always better than endless war."

"Stop the war. You must find a way of negotiating for peace," the Pope urged, commenting on the conflict between the radical Palestinian movement Hamas and Israel.

The head of the Vatican has repeatedly made statements on the Ukrainian conflict and called for peace. In early May, he expressed readiness to join the June peace conference on Ukraine in Switzerland only if Russia is invited to the event.

The conference is scheduled for June 15-16 near the city of Lucerne. About 160 states have been invited to attend.
