Poverty Rate in Uzbekistan Decreased to 8.9% in 2024

Based on the results of 2024, the poverty rate in Uzbekistan was determined according to international standards. According to these calculations, the 2023 figure of 11% dropped to 8.9% by the end of 2024. This means that the poverty rate stands at 3.3 million people, a decrease of 719,000 compared to 2023. These results were determined based on studies conducted in collaboration with the World Bank.

Poverty Rate in Uzbekistan Decreased to 8.9% in 2024
Significant reductions in the poverty rate were observed in the following regions:

Bukhara region — decreased from 11.8% to 8.7%;

Samarkand region — decreased from 10.5% to 7.5%;

Namangan region — decreased from 10.4% to 7.6%;

Republic of Karakalpakstan — decreased from 13.6% to 10.8%.

Measures aimed at ensuring employment, developing entrepreneurship, and improving the use of land for horticulture and agriculture significantly contributed to the decrease in poverty.

As a result, in 2024, real income of the population increased by 10.7%. The average monthly income per capita reached 2.1 million sums (at the beginning of the year, this figure was 1.7 million sums).

Composition of population income in 2024:

Salary — 42.6% (in 2023 — 41.9%);

Entrepreneurial income — 22.9% (in 2023 — 21.4%);

Pensions, social assistance, and subsidies — 18.2% (in 2023 — 18.9%);

Income from agriculture and gardening — 10.7% (in 2023 — 9.8%);

Remittances from abroad — 2.0% (in 2023 — 3.1%);

Other income — 3.6% (in 2023 — 4.9%).

Notably, income from salaries increased by 12.9% compared to 2023.
