President of Uzbekistan Discusses Cooperation Prospects with European Council Head

On January 23, 2025, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a phone conversation with the new President of the European Council, António Costa. During the discussion, key issues of bilateral and regional cooperation were addressed.
President Mirziyoyev congratulated António Costa on his appointment and wished him success in his new role. Both leaders highlighted the strong ties between Uzbekistan and the European Union, which continue to develop dynamically across various priority areas.
In 2024, trade turnover between Uzbekistan and EU member states exceeded €6 billion, while the total project portfolio with European companies reached €30 billion. Recently, a strategic partnership agreement on critical mineral resources was signed. Cooperation in transport, digital technologies, green economy, and culture is also advancing steadily.
Both sides expressed hope for the expedited signing of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Uzbekistan and the European Union, which is expected to give a significant boost to their relations.
The leaders also discussed international agenda items and regional cooperation. Special attention was given to preparations for the first “Central Asia – EU” summit, set to take place in April this year in Samarkand.
This dialogue reaffirmed the commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the European Union further.
