President of Uzbekistan: Every household, every enterprise must contribute to nature conservation
Uzbekistan
At the initiative of our President, the national project "Green space" was launched three years ago and has become a true people's movement. Every year, during the spring and autumn, the tradition of planting tree saplings is held. The President himself is always an example in this initiative.
In previous years, saplings were planted in the new districts of Tashkent, such as New Tashkent, Sergeli, and Chilonzor. This year, a green area was established in the Bektemir district of our capital, along the Tashkent Ring Road.
For this, 100 hectares of land were allocated, and over two years, a total of 100,000 saplings of trees and shrubs will be planted. To care for them, three artificial water reservoirs and 12 wells have been built.
As known, the "Green space"project aims to increase the level of greenery in cities to 30%, particularly by creating a "green belt" around them. This area along the ring road will be part of Tashkent's "green belt." Another notable aspect is that a natural forest form is planned to be created here.
The President expressed his gratitude to the representatives of the public and foreign diplomats for their contribution to this noble initiative.
This tradition has existed with us. Our people call nature "mother," they honor the land and water. This truth is especially evident now due to the impact of current ecological issues. This is why we started the "Green space" project. Next year, its name will be dedicated to environmental protection. These initiatives need to spread widely, especially among our youth. Every household, every enterprise must contribute to nature conservation, - said President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The event was also followed via video connection by the public of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and regions. Saplings were also planted in these areas. In the autumn season, 80 million tree and shrub saplings are planned to be planted as part of the "Green space" project.
In spring, 138 million saplings were planted. Ministries and local governments have established 257 gardens. Trees are also being planted around large industrial enterprises and waste disposal sites, creating "green belts."
In total, over the last three years, 646 million saplings and shrubs have been planted across the country. The green coverage in the Aral Sea region has increased by over 2 million hectares.
