Uzbekistan
On September 7, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, received the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), Ian Saunders, who is visiting Tashkent to participate in the 7th Global Canine Forum.
Discussions focused on further expanding practical cooperation to improve customs administration, strengthen the capacity of customs authorities, and combat violations.
It was noted that, with the organization's assistance, Uzbekistan has acceded to several international conventions on trade facilitation, implemented modern customs control mechanisms, and developed and adopted a Customs Service Development Strategy through 2030.
As a result of large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan's customs sector, 94 percent of export and 87 percent of import shipments are now processed using simplified procedures. Declaration processing time has been reduced to 20 minutes.
Digital solutions facilitating effective interaction between customs authorities and the business community are being actively implemented, while administrative formalities are being reduced and corruption risks minimized.
Particular attention during the meeting was paid to the further digitalization and harmonization of customs procedures, the improvement of the regulatory framework, and personnel training and professional development. The importance of these tasks was emphasized in the context of Uzbekistan's preparations for accession to the World Trade Organization.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to jointly develop and adopt a "roadmap" outlining specific measures to further deepen cooperation and improve customs administration.
