Project Prometheus: Jeff Bezos’s Secret AI Leap
Business
Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has launched a major artificial intelligence startup called Project Prometheus, The New York Times reports. This marks his first return to an executive leadership role since stepping down as Amazon’s CEO in 2021.
Bezos will co-direct the startup with Vik Bajaj, a physicist and chemist who previously worked with Sergey Brin at Google X. According to sources, Project Prometheus has already raised $6.2 billion in funding, part of which was invested by Bezos himself. The company employs about 100 specialists, including former OpenAI and DeepMind engineers.
The startup aims to apply advanced AI technologies across the aerospace, automotive, and computing industries. The company’s headquarters and official launch timeline remain undisclosed.
Bezos’s return to operational leadership aligns with his growing interest in artificial intelligence and his ongoing involvement in aerospace initiatives through Blue Origin.
