Protests Sweep New York and Minneapolis
World
Around two thousand people took to the streets of New York to protest against the policies of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration. According to The New York Times, demonstrators opposed Washington’s actions in Venezuela, the mass deportation of migrants, and the killing of a woman by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis last week.
Chants of “Trump must go” were heard during the march. Clashes broke out between protesters and a small group of the president’s supporters in downtown New York, and police detained at least one person.
Similar protests were reported in Minneapolis, where the ICE-related incident occurred. Local authorities said around 30 demonstrators were arrested and one police officer was injured after being hit by a chunk of ice. Protesters accused ICE of “hunting people” and said its actions had turned the city into a “war zone.”
