Some 500 athletes from Russia and Belarus are taking part in the Asian Games. They compete as neutral athletes without national symbols and their results are not counted in the medal table.

Russian and Belarusian athletes are allowed to participate in the 2023 Asian Games, but in a neutral status. The decision was taken at the meeting of the General Assembly of the Asian Olympic Committee, Inside the Games reports.

It is noted that about 500 athletes from Russia and Belarus will participate in the Asian Games. They will compete as neutral athletes without national symbols; their results are not counted in the medal table.

Performing at the Asian Games, the largest international tournament, will allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to show the qualification results needed to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The International Olympic Committee has not made a final decision on the admission of Russian and Belarusian representatives to the Olympic Games. At the next IOC Executive Council session in Lausanne in late June, the committee representatives said that they would make a final decision "at the right time" and "depending on how the situation develops".
