Samarkand is recognized as the cultural capital of the Islamic world for 2025

Within the framework of the visit of the ICESCO Director-General to Uzbekistan, an agreement was reached to hold large-scale international cultural events in Samarkand.
On May 24, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov, held a meeting with the Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Dr. Salim bin Muhammad Al-Maliki. During the negotiations, issues of expanding bilateral cooperation and implementing joint projects were discussed.
Special attention was paid to the ICESCO initiative to declare the city of Samarkand the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World in 2025. According to the head of the organization, this status "will give a new impetus to cultural interaction and emphasize Uzbekistan's leading role in Islamic civilization."
During the year, ICESCO, together with the relevant ministries and agencies of Uzbekistan, is organizing a wide and rich program of events. Within the framework of the declared Cultural Year, an international conference on "The Cultural Legacy of the Islamic World: Calligraphy, Music, Poetry, and Unity" is planned to be held in Samarkand. The forum will be attended by the Ministers of Culture of the ICESCO member countries, representatives of international organizations and cultural institutions.
In addition, during the meeting, the parties signed a roadmap, which includes specific steps to deepen cooperation and implement promising projects in the near future.
