Nearly 300 representatives of parliaments and international organizations are expected to gather in Samarkand from 4 to 6 September for the 12th IPU Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians. The conference will focus on protecting human rights, advancing justice and upholding dignity amid today’s global challenges.

The event is being jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Parliament of Uzbekistan. Delegations from 183 countries, representatives of 15 international organizations and around 50 permanent observers are expected to attend.

The agenda will focus on issues directly affecting young people and their rights. Participants will address the protection of youth rights in conflict situations, digital rights in an era of technological transformation, expanded political opportunities for young people, economic rights and youth employment, as well as climate resilience.

The official working sessions will take place on 4–5 September. The programme includes six thematic sessions covering issues such as protecting youth rights during conflicts, safeguarding digital rights and strengthening climate resilience. Interactive formats, including working groups, training sessions and dialogue platforms, are also planned.

The conference will provide young parliamentarians with an opportunity to exchange experience, present good practices and develop joint approaches to key issues on the agenda. A final document containing recommendations and common positions of the participants is expected to be adopted at the conclusion of the event.

The 12th Global Conference continues the IPU’s annual conference format for young parliamentarians, established in 2014 to strengthen youth participation in parliamentary and political processes. A cultural programme organized by the host country’s parliament is scheduled for 6 September.
