Saudi Arabia starts building $1.1bn thermal plant in Uzbekistan
On 27 November, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the ceremony of launching the projects of connecting a modern combined cycle power plant with a capacity of 1,500 megawatts in Syrdarya region to the power supply network and starting construction of a pilot production of "green hydrogen" in Tashkent region, implemented jointly with the leading Saudi company ACWA Power.
The $1.1 billion Syrdarya TPP project will meet the electricity needs of more than 3 million households and hundreds of industrial enterprises.
Moreover, for the first time in the region, a unique enterprise for the production of "green hydrogen" is being created. As part of this "pilot" project, at the first stage 3 thousand tonnes of hydrogen will be produced in the country, which will then be processed into mineral fertilisers, and a 52 megawatt wind farm will be built.
In general, major energy projects worth $7.5 billion are being successfully implemented in Uzbekistan with the participation of ASWA Rower.
By 2030, the launch of these projects will create 25 gigawatts of renewable energy, save 4.5 billion cubic metres of gas, and reduce emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere to 3 million tonnes.
