Recently, a video of renowned boxer, world champion, and Olympic silver medalist Shahram Giyosov wrestling a bear went viral on social media. The footage sparked widespread public discussion and faced heavy criticism from users.
The video shows Giyosov wrestling the bear, throwing it to the ground several times, while another person holds the animal by a leash. Social media users described these actions as “disgusting,” “horrifying,” and “mockery of animals.” Although the video was quickly deleted, it had already been widely shared on other platforms.
The Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change announced that they are investigating the incident. The ministry condemned any cruelty toward animals and reminded the public that such actions are punishable under the law.
According to a Cabinet of Ministers’ resolution set to take effect on January 1, 2025, keeping bears in semi-free conditions or artificial habitats and using them for circus performances is prohibited. It has been noted that this ban might also apply to the current situation.
The "Buka Gym" training facility, where Shahram Giyosov trained, also issued a statement. They clarified that the video was not part of their project and that none of their staff participated in its filming. Additionally, they condemned such actions, stated their support for animal protection, and apologized to the public.
