Sharp Decline in Air Quality Expected in Tashkent
Uzbekistan
Residents and guests of the capital should prepare for abrupt whims of nature and take immediate steps to safeguard their health. Leading international meteorological centers, in coordination with Uzhydromet, have detected the movement of powerful air masses that will bring gusty winds, thunderstorms, and a brief yet dense dust veil to Tashkent. The Special Commission has already declared an elevated state of readiness, issuing an emergency framework of precautions to help citizens—especially those in high-risk categories—weather this atmospheric disruption with minimal impact.
The Special Commission has issued a warning regarding a potential short-term decline in air quality and dust storms in Tashkent on May 27. According to forecasts from WMO regional centers (Beijing, Saudi Arabia) and Uzhydromet, the phenomenon is expected to manifest ahead of an incoming western front of moist air masses. Throughout the day, the capital will experience variable cloudiness, localized thunderstorms, and brief rain showers. Western winds of 3–8 m/s are anticipated, with gusts strengthening up to 12–15 m/s. This spike in wind velocity will temporarily increase the concentration of airborne dust, including PM10 particulate matter.
Air quality is projected to recover following the rainfall. Citizens suffering from allergies, respiratory issues, or cardiovascular conditions are strongly advised to limit outdoor exposure, keep windows tightly closed, and wear protective face masks. Continuous monitoring of the atmospheric conditions remains active.
