Uzbekistan and the United States have agreed on a strategic partnership in critical minerals and rare earth elements. The memorandum of understanding was signed by Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.
The document provides for cooperation in the extraction and processing of strategically important minerals and opens the way for U.S. technologies and investments in Uzbekistan’s mining sector.
According to the Uzbek foreign minister, the country views the rare metals industry not only as a source of revenue but also as a foundation for responsible international partnership and long-term sustainable development.
After the signing, the sides discussed a broader range of bilateral issues, focusing on expanding trade and economic ties, strengthening energy security, and launching joint projects.
The United States also expressed interest in deepening cooperation with Uzbekistan on combating illegal migration and within the C5+1 diplomatic platform, which brings together Washington and the five Central Asian states.
Both sides stressed the importance of timely implementation of agreements reached at the highest level. Landau’s visit to Tashkent follows earlier contacts during his trip to Uzbekistan in October 2025.
