The Premiere of "Tamerlano" Becomes the Event of the Year in Vienna
World
A landmark cultural event took place at the legendary Musikverein in Vienna: on the 690th anniversary of Amir Temur’s birth, George Frideric Handel’s opera "Tamerlano" resonated through its halls. This Baroque masterpiece was presented to a sophisticated European audience in a modern interpretation, blending academic tradition with the artistic vision of composer Kirill Richter.
The premiere of the opera in a concert performance stood as an independent artistic statement, offering a fresh perspective on the dramatic portrayal of the Sahibkiran. The large-scale production united top-tier representatives of Uzbek and international art on one stage. The musical foundation was provided by the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan, conducted by Alibek Kabdurakhmanov, alongside the Merited Choir of Uzbekistan.
The vocal parts were performed by world-renowned stars: Jenisbek Piyazov, Olga Peretyatko, and Juan Sancho. Opting for a concert form rather than a classical stage production allowed the audience to focus on Handel's intricate musical structure and its contemporary relevance. Experts have already described the Vienna performance as a vital step in promoting Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage on the world’s leading stages, transforming a historical date into a global celebration of high art.
