On March 17, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with a delegation of the US Congress headed by Congresswoman Carol Miller, a member of the parliamentary cocus on cooperation with Uzbekistan.
The meeting discussed the prospects for deepening the strategic partnership between the countries, strengthening economic ties, and expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation. A representative of the American delegation conveyed to the head of our state personal greetings from the President of the United States and the leadership of Congress.
The parties noted the active growth of bilateral cooperation: in recent years, trade turnover has significantly increased, joint business projects and investment initiatives are developing. American educational institutions - Webster University and the American University of Technology - are successfully operating in Uzbekistan.
Special attention was paid to expanding partnership in such areas as energy, industry, the agro-industrial sector, and the extractive industry. The prospects for establishing direct connections between the regions of Uzbekistan and the US states were also discussed.
Carol Miller expressed high appreciation for the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan aimed at modernizing the economy, democratic transformations, and ensuring gender equality.
At the end of the meeting, the parties exchanged views on topical issues of the regional agenda, including the situation in Afghanistan.
