The World Chess Championship starts today in Samarkand
The VI World Chess Championship in Rapid and Blitz starts today in Samarkand.

The total prize money for the championship is $1 million.

Grandmasters Magnus Carlsen, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Daniil Dubov, Gukesh Dommaraju, Vincent Kaymer, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Yu Yangyi, Maxim Vachier-Lagrave, Levon Aronian will take part in the VI World Championship.

The championship will last until 30 December.

On 25 December, the opening ceremony of the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships was held in Samarkand.

Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, the world's number one chess player, who came to participate in the World Championship, wore an Uzbek chapan at the ceremony.
