The UAE Ministry of Interior confirmed yesterday that Zvi Kogan had been murdered and three suspects were arrested.
According to UAE authorities, the 28-year-old Kogan entered the country using Moldovan documents and was residing in Abu Dhabi with his wife, Rivky. The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs recognized Zvi Kogan as an Israeli-Moldovan citizen and strongly condemned the violence. They stated they remain in contact with authorities to support the investigation.
The UAE emphasized that it would take all measures necessary to ensure the safety of its citizens, residents, and visitors, and would use "all legal means" against any actions threatening societal stability.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the murder of Zvi Kogan as a "heinous" act and stressed that Israel would do everything possible to bring the perpetrators to justice.
It was also noted that Israel and the UAE value their cooperation and will continue to strengthen peaceful relations.
Zvi Kogan, who served as an emissary for the Chabad Hasidic movement in the UAE, will be buried in Israel.
Chabad is an Orthodox Jewish organization with branches worldwide. The UAE branch offers religious and social services to Jewish visitors and residents.
The Chabad community and the global Jewish community expressed "shock, grief, and outrage" over the murder. They voiced confidence that the UAE would bring the perpetrators to justice and cooperate with regional countries.
Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, head of Chabad-Lubavitch, stated: "Every country where Chabad representatives serve is obliged to take measures against terrorism. The targeting of Rabbi Kogan was an attempt to destroy sacred Jewish values: light, kindness, and compassion."
Dr. Anwar Gargash, the UAE President's diplomatic advisor, described the country as a "place of safety, stability, and tolerance."
UAE Ambassador to the US Yousef Al Otaiba called Kogan's murder a crime not just against the individual but against UAE values. He emphasized that the UAE rejects extremism and is determined to preserve peace and stability.
The identities of the three suspects remain undisclosed.
