After participating in the referendum on the new Constitution, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a briefing for domestic and international media. The president emphasized the historical significance of the referendum, the importance of adopting the new Constitution, and discussed the goals of constitutional reform and international initiatives.

Tokayev highlighted that the new Constitution affirms Kazakhstan’s territorial integrity, independence, and sovereignty, and guarantees citizens’ rights and freedoms. He stressed that the document was prepared according to modern standards and is intended to ensure the country’s progressive development.

Regarding the speed of the reform process, the president explained that the work had been ongoing for several years, including extensive discussions of the preamble and other provisions of the Constitution.

On the creation of the vice-president position, Tokayev clarified that it will strengthen state institutions and poses no threat to society. He confirmed that the next presidential elections will take place in 2029 according to the current Constitution.

The president also discussed the International Peace Council initiative created by former U.S. President Donald Trump, praising its innovative approach, the combination of diplomacy and business involvement, and expressed hope for its success, particularly in the Middle East and Palestine.
