Тokayev Responds to Trump: Kazakhstan Supports Fair and Predictable Trade
After receiving an official letter from U.S. President Donald Trump notifying him of a 25% tariff on Kazakh imports starting August 1, 2025, Tokayev responded with a message affirming Kazakhstan's readiness for constructive dialogue while defending national interests.

The President described the U.S. as a long-standing trade and investment partner, reaffirming Kazakhstan’s commitment to predictable, fair, and sustainable trade relations.

According to the Ministry of Trade of Kazakhstan, the U.S. has received specific proposals aimed at improving trade conditions, and preparations for further negotiations are underway. The Kazakh side is counting on rational solutions that would prevent escalation.

The Ministry also stated that around 95% of Kazakh exports to the U.S. will remain unaffected by the new tariffs. This includes essential raw and strategic materials such as oil, uranium, titanium, ferroalloys, silver, and tantalum.

In 2024, the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and the U.S. reached $4.2 billion, marking a 4% increase compared to 2023.
