The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has begun the process of shutting down the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the world's largest humanitarian donor. This was announced by billionaire Elon Musk, who heads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). According to him, the president agreed that the agency is beyond repair and supported its closure.

Trump and Musk Dismantle the World’s Largest Humanitarian Aid Program
USAID allocates billions of dollars annually for global projects, including healthcare, anti-corruption efforts, energy security, and access to clean water. In 2023, its aid volume reached $72 billion, accounting for 42% of all humanitarian assistance tracked by the United Nations.

Trump has already signed an executive order suspending international aid for 90 days, and the USAID office in Ukraine has been ordered to halt all projects.

Musk harshly criticized USAID, calling it a "criminal organization" and a "nest of radical Marxists." He also stated that Trump’s cost-cutting policies could reduce the U.S. budget deficit by $1 trillion next year. Meanwhile, the decision to shut down USAID has sparked controversy, as hundreds of humanitarian programs worldwide are now at risk.
