Trump Posts Map Showing Iceland as Part of the US

US President Donald Trump posted a map on the Truth Social platform showing Iceland as part of the United States. Following the post, Icelandic Foreign Minister Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir summoned US Ambassador Billy Long to the Foreign Ministry.
The map also showed Greenland, Canada, Mexico, the countries of Central America and Caribbean states as part of the United States. All of these territories were colored in the shades of the American flag. Trump did not add any comment or caption to the image.
Iceland’s Foreign Ministry said the publication was discussed with the US ambassador. “At the meeting, it was clearly stated that this publication was completely inappropriate,” the ministry said.
The post came amid Trump’s earlier statements concerning US territorial claims. The American leader had previously declared that the Moon belongs to the United States.
Since returning to the White House, Trump has repeatedly insisted that Greenland should become part of the United States. He has also ordered the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America and Lake Ontario on the border with Canada as Lake America.
The US president also proposed renaming the state of New Mexico “New America.”
The publication showing Iceland as part of the United States became another episode against the backdrop of Trump’s statements on expanding US territorial designations and changing geographical names.
