Trump: Putin Has No Plans to Attack NATO, While Witkoff and Kushner Carry a Peace Proposal

US President Donald Trump said he does not expect Russia to attack NATO countries. He also said that special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are traveling to Moscow and Kyiv with a proposal aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Asked about Germany’s accusations against Russia over a drone incident at Leipzig Airport, Trump said: “I don’t think Putin will… I talk to him. I know him very well. Putin is not going to attack NATO territory.”
Vladimir Putin has previously rejected the possibility of such a scenario, describing related claims as a deliberate provocation. In June, he said allegations that Russia could attack NATO were being used to create a threat that did not exist and to encourage higher defense spending. “What sense would it make for us to attack Europe and go to war with NATO?” the Russian president said.
Trump also discussed the upcoming mission of Witkoff and Kushner. According to him, they are “bringing a proposal on how to end the war.” The US president said it was not a new proposal and added that Washington “has an idea for a peaceful solution,” without providing details.
Trump said he sees a “good chance” for progress in resolving the conflict and described Witkoff and Kushner as “two great negotiators.” “There is a chance we will solve this,” he said.
According to Axios, Witkoff and Kushner are expected to arrive in Moscow on Saturday, September 5, where they are expected to hold talks with Vladimir Putin. The following day, they plan to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv. This is expected to be Witkoff and Kushner’s first visit to Ukraine since Trump returned to the White House.
Trump also commented on the confrontation between the United States and Iran, calling it “a minor thing” for Washington and describing the situation as a military conflict. Earlier, he said the US side was “almost completely” controlling the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran’s economy had been “completely destroyed.” Trump said he was not trying to force Iran to the negotiating table and argued that Tehran was only “delaying the inevitable.”
