US President Donald Trump said that elections in Venezuela will not take place within the next 30 days, arguing that the current situation makes voting impossible.

“First, we need to restore order in the country. Elections are not possible. This will take time,” Trump said in an interview with NBC, without specifying when elections might be held.

Trump also emphasized that the United States is not at war with Venezuela, adding that the country’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, is cooperating with Washington.

He further commented on media reports suggesting he did not support Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado because of a Nobel Peace Prize-related issue.

“She should not have won. But no, that had no impact on my decision,” the US president said.
