According to Politico, former U.S. President Donald Trump's team held secret talks with key political opponents of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Sources report that four senior officials from the U.S. administration contacted former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and close associates of former President Petro Poroshenko.

Reports indicate that the discussions mainly focused on the possibility of holding early presidential elections in Ukraine. Under the country's constitution, elections have been postponed indefinitely due to martial law. Politico based its conclusions on conversations with three Ukrainian parliament members and a foreign policy expert from the U.S. Republican Party.
In recent weeks, Donald Trump has repeatedly called for presidential elections to be held in Ukraine. He believes that Zelensky is losing voter support due to war fatigue and corruption scandals.
"It’s time to hold elections. Also, we need to understand where all this money has gone. Because Zelensky said he doesn’t know where half of it went, or something like that," Trump said on February 19 at an event in Miami. He also referred to Zelensky as a "dictator without elections."
This statement was criticized by many countries and international organizations, including the UN. Later, Trump denied calling Zelensky a dictator, while the Ukrainian Parliament confirmed the legitimacy of Zelensky’s presidential mandate.
Although Trump’s team claims that Zelensky is losing voter confidence, recent opinion polls suggest otherwise. According to a survey conducted by the British company Survation, 44% of Ukrainians support Zelensky.
His closest competitor, former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and current Ambassador to London Valerii Zaluzhnyi, trails Zelensky by 20 percentage points. Petro Poroshenko has the support of 10%, while Yulia Tymoshenko has less than 6% of respondents.
