Children are becoming increasingly vulnerable to criminal networks involved in human trafficking. According to the UN, today they constitute 38% of all victims of this crime, and the number of girls who have been exploited has increased significantly over the past five years.

UN: Almost 40% of human trafficking victims worldwide are children
This was stated by the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Child Abuse, Najat Maalla Mjid, at the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council. She emphasized that child trafficking is linked to other forms of violence and exploitation, including sexual violence, child labor, forced begging, and involvement in criminal activities.

According to the expert, the main reasons for the growth of this crime are poverty, conflicts, humanitarian crises, and social inequality. At the same time, modern digital technologies only facilitate criminals' access to children.

"Baby trafficking is a low-cost, low-risk, but it brings enormous profits, reaching billions of dollars a year," Mjid stated, noting that the low number of convictions makes this crime practically impunity.

She called for urgent measures, including strengthening social protection systems, combating corruption, and increasing the accountability of criminals.
