The United States has carried out airstrikes against Islamic State targets in northwestern Nigeria, in coordination with Nigerian authorities.
The United States has launched strikes against the Islamic State (ISIS) group in northwestern Nigeria, former President Donald Trump announced, describing the operation as “powerful and deadly.”
Trump said U.S. forces conducted “multiple precision strikes” against militants, accusing the group of violent attacks and killings, particularly targeting Christian civilians.
U.S. Africa Command (Africom) later confirmed that the strikes were carried out in Nigeria’s Sokoto state and coordinated with Nigerian security forces.
In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said he had previously warned the militants about the consequences of continued violence and stressed that the United States would not allow radical Islamist terrorism to thrive.
In November, Trump instructed the U.S. military to prepare for possible action in Nigeria amid growing Islamist militant activity and rising violence in the region.
