The university administration demanded that students vacate the camp by 2:00 p.m. local time on April 29th. According to the publication, students received notifications stating that sanctions for disobedience would include probation, access restrictions, suspension from classes, and expulsion. Three hours after the set deadline, students began to be suspended from classes.

A university representative, Ben Chang, stated that suspended students will not be able to complete the semester or obtain a higher education. They are also prohibited from entering campus residential and academic buildings.

According to The New York Times, as of April 29th, more than 800 people were detained at student rallies in support of Palestinians in the United States.

The war in the Gaza Strip has been ongoing since October 7th, after the Palestinian group Hamas attacked Israeli border regions, simultaneously launching massive rocket attacks and taking hostages. In response, Israel declared war on Hamas and began a ground operation in the Gaza Strip.
