USA canceled grant for Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan
The US has suspended dozens of international grants, including a $2.5 million project for Uzbekistan aimed at "developing civic participation." The decision was part of a large-scale review of programs approved by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
According to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), 139 grants totaling $215 million have been canceled. Among them are projects related to combating disinformation, women's rights, and supporting independent media in various countries.
In particular, the following were canceled:
5.2 million dollars - for combating misinformation in Great Britain;
2.4 million - for creative content against propaganda in Belarus;
1.7 million - to support independent media in Europe;
1 million - for promoting the rights of free workers in Brazil;
2 million - for programs in Moldova.
Funding for gender and migration initiatives in Bulgaria, Tunisia, Lebanon, and other countries has also been suspended.
In addition, previously, $2.2 billion in grants intended for Harvard University, as well as $60 million in contracts, were frozen, which caused a stir in the American education sector. The reason was a disagreement between the Trump administration and the university administration.
