Uzbekistan and China Launch Regional-Scale Megaprojects

The Third Interregional Forum, which gathered a record-breaking 2,000 delegates, has turned a brand-new page in the strategic partnership between Tashkent and Beijing. While officials and business executives signed multi-million dollar contracts covering the green economy and digital technologies during panel sessions, Uzbekistan's National Pavilion became the central hub of attraction for thousands of foreign investors eager to capitalize on new industrial growth centers.
The Xi'an International Conference Center (PRC) is playing host to the Third Uzbek-Chinese Interregional Forum. Co-organized by the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, the People's Government of Shaanxi Province, and the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the event centers on high-quality modernization. The forum brought together nearly 2,000 delegates, including the heads of administrations from 20 Chinese provinces, ministerial representatives, academics, and entrepreneurs.
The opening ceremony coincided with the launch of the 10th International Silk Road International Exposition. The Uzbek delegation was represented at the opening by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev, Chairman of the Joqargi Kenes of Karakalpakstan Amanbay Orynbaev, and the Hokims of Syrdarya and Jizzakh regions. The speakers emphasized that interregional contacts have become the primary engine of bilateral partnership. Over the past five years, mutual trade volume expanded threefold (reaching nearly 18 billion dollars), while direct PRC investments into Uzbekistan grew fivefold, hitting 17 billion dollars. More than 5,400 joint ventures operate with Chinese capital in the country today.
A focal point of the event is the 2,000-square-meter "National Pavilion of Uzbekistan," open until May 25. Showcasing the export, tourism, and educational potential of the country's regions, it is expected to attract over 10,000 visitors. The practical segment of the forum featured specialized panel sessions on green development, high technologies, the agro-industrial complex, and women's entrepreneurship. Following the sessions, the parties finalized a massive package of major investment and cooperation agreements.
