Uzbekistan and Japan to Further Expand Energy Cooperation

Uzbekistan and Japan have agreed to continue advancing mutually beneficial energy projects. On September 10, Uzbekistan’s Energy Minister Sherzod Khodjaev held talks with Japan’s State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Kenji Yamada.
The sides discussed further development of bilateral cooperation and highlighted energy as one of the key areas of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
During the talks, they reviewed the implementation of major projects in Uzbekistan involving leading Japanese energy companies. The projects cover electricity generation, the development of power transmission lines, and the modernization of the country’s gas transmission infrastructure.
Kenji Yamada’s visit comes amid intensified economic dialogue between Uzbekistan and Japan. On September 9, Tashkent hosted the 18th Joint Meeting of the Uzbekistan–Japan and Japan–Uzbekistan Committees for Economic Cooperation, attended by representatives of Japanese companies and institutions including Mitsubishi Corporation, JETRO, JOGMEC, JICA, JBIC and NEXI.
Following the meeting, Uzbekistan and Japan agreed to further promote mutually beneficial projects and consistently continue close cooperation in the energy sector.
