The agreement was reached during talks between the transport ministers of the two countries, Ilkhom Makhkamov and Azim Ibrohim. The sides also discussed the possibility of launching regular shipments along a broader route connecting China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey and Europe.

A key element of the project will be the introduction of electronic permits for international freight transport, aimed at simplifying procedures and reducing transit time.

The transport corridor was first presented in 2022 in Dushanbe at the International Conference on Logistics Development and has since been viewed as a перспективный link between Asia and Europe.

The parties also agreed on measures to increase the capacity of the Jartepa–Sarazm border crossing. A new logistics center capable of handling up to 100 trucks per day is planned near the checkpoint.

In addition, a diagnostic center for up to 200 people per day and a commercial complex for 800 entrepreneurs will be built. Citizens of Tajikistan will be able to access medical and commercial services there without passport control or additional paperwork.
