Tashkent and Ankara have reached agreements to simplify international freight transportation within the Middle Corridor, use Turkish ports, and develop the Uzbekistan — Turkmenistan — Iran — Turkey route, said Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport Ilkhom Mahkamov.

According to the minister, the countries have agreed on measures to ease border crossings, support freight operations, and reduce bureaucratic obstacles. In particular, container trains on the Uzbekistan — Turkmenistan — Iran — Turkey route are planned, which will accelerate export-import processes and open new markets for entrepreneurs.

Special attention is being given to the digitalization of transportation. An electronic permit system (e-permit) for road transport has already been implemented, serving as an example for the entire Middle Corridor and being extended to neighboring countries.

The agreements were signed during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s official visit to Turkey on January 29–30. The documents envisage the development of new routes connecting Uzbekistan with the Caucasus and Europe.

The foreign trade turnover between the two countries has gradually declined since 2021 (from $3.4 billion) and reached $3.02 billion in 2025. Under the agreements, the countries plan to increase trade volume to $5 billion.
