Uzbekistan Calls for Deepening Regional Integration in Central Asia

Today, on August 9, 2024, during the Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, delivered an important speech emphasizing the necessity of strengthening cooperation among the countries of the region.

President Mirziyoyev noted that cooperation between Central Asian states has significantly expanded over the past six years, leading to increased trade, investments, and other forms of interaction. He expressed confidence that regional integration plays a crucial role in overcoming global challenges, including the economic impact of international sanctions and climate change.

The President proposed the creation of an Economic Council and the holding of regular meetings at the deputy prime minister level to strengthen trade ties and develop a unified regional market. Mirziyoyev also called for the establishment of a Central Asian Investment Council and an Innovation Development Bank.

"Today, the issue on the agenda is the creation of a Unified Regional Market," emphasized Mirziyoyev, proposing to hold the first meeting of the Economic Council in Tashkent next year.

Additionally, the President of Uzbekistan focused on issues of ecology, food, and energy security, suggesting the development of comprehensive regional strategies to address these challenges. Mirziyoyev also highlighted the importance of educational and cultural exchange, proposing the launch of an International Media Platform titled "History and Culture of Central Asia: One Past and a Common Future."

In concluding his speech, Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited the heads of Central Asian states to the seventh summit, which will be held in Uzbekistan in August 2025.
