Uzbekistan remembers the heroes of the Great Victory

80 years later - memory is alive. On the Day of Remembrance and Honor, the President laid a wreath at the "Ode to Resilience" monument and called on young people to convey the truth about the heroism of the Uzbek people during the Second World War.
On May 9, the Day of Remembrance and Honor, a commemorative event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in World War II was held in the Victory Park in Tashkent. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev laid a wreath at the "Ode to Resilience" monument and emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of the victims and heroism of Uzbekistanis who fought in the fronts and worked in the rear.
According to archival data, nearly 2 million people from Uzbekistan participated in the battles against fascism. More than 540 thousand died, 158 thousand went missing, more than 50 thousand were tortured in concentration camps, about 60 thousand returned from the front with disabilities. For their bravery, 214 thousand soldiers and officers were awarded combat awards.
During the war years, Uzbekistan became the most important front-line base, providing the front with equipment, clothing, and food. The republic received 1.5 million evacuees, including 250 thousand orphans.
The event was attended by representatives of the Armed Forces, government agencies, the public, elders, and activists. They laid flowers at the monument and honored the memory of the fallen.
The President also inspected the monumental composition "The Light of Memory," created in the form of two soaring birds - a symbol of the continuity of generations. The monument is equipped with a QR code that allows you to learn about the history of the complex and the heroes of the war, as well as download the book "The Light of Memory."
"This is a chronicle of true courage. We must convey it to the youth. Especially now, in these turbulent times," Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted.
