Uzbekistan to Hold Nationwide “Car-Free Day” on August 25

Uzbekistan will hold its next nationwide “Car-Free Day” campaign on August 25, as part of efforts to reduce transport emissions and promote cleaner forms of mobility.
The initiative is being implemented under the national “Clean Air” project approved by a presidential decree on March 25, 2026. Under the decree, “Car-Free Day” and “Car-Free Week” campaigns are held on the 10th and 25th of each month.
During the campaigns, employees of the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change and its regional offices refrain from using official and private vehicles, opting instead for public transport, bicycles and other environmentally friendly forms of mobility.
According to the Committee, the use of more than 1,730 official and private vehicles has been restricted since the initiative began. As a result, harmful atmospheric emissions have fallen by an average of 17,370 kilograms, while traffic congestion in cities has also decreased.
The programme is aimed at improving air quality, developing environmentally sustainable urban environments and promoting public and cleaner transport.
The Committee also reminded that the use of vehicles by civil servants during the campaigns may result in liability under national legislation.
