Otabek Akbarov was appointed ambassador to Italy in August 2018.
In connection with the completion of his diplomatic mission, Uzbekistan's Ambassador Otabek Akbarov met with Italy's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Edmondo Cirielli in Rome, Dunyo reported.
Edmondo Cirielli positively assessed the five-year activity of the head of the diplomatic mission and expressed gratitude on behalf of the Italian Foreign Ministry for efforts to raise bilateral relations to a new level and give them a multifaceted and stable tone.
During Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's official visit to Italy on 8-9 June, the adoption of a joint declaration on the establishment of strategic partnership relations between the two countries was highlighted.
Thus, Italy became the first Western European country to establish relations with Uzbekistan at such a high level. According to the declaration, a mechanism of strategic dialogue will be formed at the level of foreign ministers, covering the full range of political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian areas of bilateral relations, as well as international issues of interest to the parties.
Appointed ambassador to Italy in August 2018, Otabek Akbarov simultaneously served as Uzbekistan's ambassador to Greece, as well as the country's permanent representative to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP).
