Uzbekistan’s Parliament Participated in CIS IPA’s Solemn Session
Uzbekistan
On April 18, 2025, a parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan led by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva, took part in a solemn session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA) in St. Petersburg, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Second World War (1941–1945).
Leaders of the parliaments of CIS member states and international organizations also participated in the event.
Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva, delivered a speech at the solemn session.
The head of Uzbekistan’s upper house of parliament sincerely congratulated the participants on the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, emphasizing that this date symbolizes universal values — peace, resilience, and unity.
The Great Victory is a shared triumph of all nations who stood shoulder to shoulder against fascism. The unparalleled bravery and labor of the Uzbek people both on the front lines and in the rear during the war years were especially acknowledged.
It was noted that nearly 2 million people from Uzbekistan were mobilized between 1941 and 1945, with more than half of them killed, wounded, or missing in action. At the same time, Uzbekistan received over 1.5 million evacuees — elderly people, women, and children, including 250,000 orphans — providing them with shelter and care.
The path to victory was paved not only with weapons, but also with the hard work, tolerance, and unity shown by those on the home front. During those years, more than 170 factories and plants were evacuated to Uzbekistan and swiftly converted to military production.
It was emphasized that such a historic date should serve to further strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between nations and become a lesson of peace and tolerance for younger generations.
