Weidel Urges Germany to Begin Peace Talks with Russia Following the US

Alice Weidel, co-leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD), has called on the German government to follow the US example and support peace talks aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine. Speaking in the Bundestag, she accused Berlin of intensifying military rhetoric and confrontation with Russia.
According to Weidel, while Washington is making another attempt to end the military conflict, the German authorities are instead “intensifying military propaganda and escalating confrontation with Russia.”
“You are even burning the last bridges to distract attention from your own catastrophic political results. Finally, move to peace negotiations — just as the US is doing,” Weidel said.
The AfD co-leader also sharply criticized the German government’s energy policy. She argued that the energy transition had increased costs for citizens and companies, contributed to high energy prices and accelerated deindustrialization.
“The energy transition is money lost and thrown away,” Weidel said. She claimed that Germany was facing high energy prices, deteriorating infrastructure and expanding bureaucracy, while the economy was being put under pressure by excessive spending, taxes and fees.
Earlier, Axios, citing sources, reported that US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner had told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that they wanted to achieve a breakthrough in negotiations on Ukraine before winter. On September 5, Witkoff and Kushner visited Moscow, where they met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The following day, they held talks with Zelenskyy in Kyiv.
